The Notebook - The Musical Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center Theatre reviews
Great to see Maher, but uneven crowd and show
The Notebook - The Musical's style is generally enjoyed by me, despite sometimes finding it too single-minded. I share many of his beliefs. His delivery was enjoyed by me, but I found the performance a bit too thematically meandering, for lack of a better word. The "script" had a few key points highlighted for him.
I have seen many well-known American comedians in my lifetime and enjoy getting to know someone's style. The Notebook - The Musical's focus on current issues and politics in general is refreshing, albeit a bit darker than perhaps both Lewis Black and Jon Stewart. Most humor in this domain is just escapist, making his approach stand out.
The audience did not seem to thoroughly enjoy his show in my opinion. Applause was sometimes strong, but often tepid. Laughter was more uncomfortable than fully engaged. We had great seats, but I thought the sound was not the best either.
Bottom line: I would definitely see him again, but would not be dying to.
